I had this same problem with Sins of a Solar Empire.  There is no setting for 1280x720.  Now as far as I know the most common HD resolution for 720p/60 is 1280x720 so I dont understand why its missing?  Im using a SHARP 46 Inch HD TV for my monitor and have it plugged into my ATI 3870 card through the HDMI interface which my tv only goes up to 720p with 60Hz.  If its anything but that, my display jumps to 1080i and 30Hz.  I dont want 1080i.. I want 720p.  And the closest thing you have to it is 1280x768 which doesnt work.  So why the omition of the most common 720p HD TV resolution?  Or how can I force it to use this?  Is there an INI file somewhere Im not looking in Vista I guess it could be somewhere in User settings.  Ill check

That's not a typical resolution for computer games and I don't know of any games that support it.

I am downloading the game right now, but the only help that I can offer is to used a windowed mode at the resolution. Do that by adding this to the shortcut target:

/windowed 1280 720

So your shortcut target should look somewhat like:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock Games\Demigod\bin\Demigod.exe" /windowed 1280 720

would be cool if you enabled custom resolutions,

e.g: my sytem is pretty mid end but playing on a 21" 16:10. 1280x800 is pretty taxing but other games i can use 1152x720 or 1024x640 which are both 16:10 and set up in my nVidia control panel.

just a thought; allows much more flexibility for fullscreen instead of having to migrate to windowed.

Yes it is a VERY common display mode and I got over a dozen new titles that have it on the PC.  Now on Consoles every game is either 720p or 1080i.  Many people have HD Tvs these days and many are using them as monitors.  Having the 2 main HD resolutions would be nice.  It is also the standard for Widescreen TV.  16:9 ratio

But Ill try the other ideas here.. After this happened with Sins of a Solar Empire which is the only other game I've seen that doesnt have that rez, other than very few obscure russian titles.  Now Im talking games out in the last 2 years. If your talking older then that then its true not many OLD games had that resolution.

Most 720p televisions use a native resolution of 1366x768, which does meet the game's minimum.

This game is under the "Games for Windows" brand which means it meets all the standard resolution displays.

Ok then where is 1280x720?  If you look up 720p on wikipedia it defines it as 1280x720 as the standard.

480i, 480p, 720i, 720p, 1080i, 1080p.   Theres one stadard resolution for each of these and 1280x720 is the one for 720i/p

come on people HD isnt all that NEW!  Look at the setting on an xbox360 or ps3.  Most every console game uses 720p or 1080i as their HD resolution.  Now before you say a computer is not a console.  The whole HD thing has been moving to pc for over a year now.  Thus the video cards like the ATI 3870HD and all the cards since.  It even has a 720p setting that defaults to 1280x720.

Heres some other games with it just to name a few.

World of Warcraft

Men of War

STALKER

Call of Duty

Company of Heroes

Red Alert II

Theres alot more that I wont go into but over the last 3 years or more 1280x720 is the standard 16:9 widescreen 720p resolution for HD Tvs.  And most developers have caught on to the fact people are using HD TVs and Projectors for displaying their computers.  This isnt Cutting Edge technology.

Yea I use a 26inch HDTV as my monitor and run every other game I own at 1280x720 and there is no setting for it on this game.  I'm running a gtx280 at 1024x768.... Badass.  If there is any fix let me know, maybe a patch will enable this.

The fact that I can play WoW, COD4, Crysis, CSS, Warhammer, and fallout 3 at 1280x720 but not this just blows my mind.

I was looking for that option as well, i use a computer monitor with 16:9 and run at 1920x1080, while i can play in that resolution with no problem i would like the option of playing in 720 to conserve hardware performance (i often do other things while playing, and soon i will get a second monitor = more things on second monitor running)

I now run in window mode which works fine, but the option would be nice.

It especially bugs me because in any other resolutions i have to go in Interlaced mode rather than progressive scan like 720p.  Interlaced only gets max 30fps.  Progressive 60Hz is what you want for up to 60fps.  So Im screwed just cuz nobody thought to put a standard 720p rez.

/bump

How about it?  Would love to show off the game to friends on my HDTV.  I can't imagine it would be hard to implement as an option.

Hi, just open the file "GAME" (prefs-file) in your demigod directory (my documents/my games/bla bla bla). There you'll find the active resolution and other resolutions (1024,768,60). Just exchange this with the resolution you want to have (1280,720,60) for instance). Last number is Hz which can get quite handy if you TV does make problems at 60 Hz.

Unfortunately changing one of the other resolutions does not result in being able to choose 720p in the ingame options.

on May 23, 2009

I opt for adding the res too. I don't use it personally but i DO havea 16:9 monitor on my laptop.

on Jun 10, 2012

yes this is stupid. How hard can it be for a modern game to support modern resolutions?

Im playing on an 23inch 1080p monitor but i often play my games in 720p so the interface and text wont get so small on the screen. Now i can put it on lets say 1280x800 but the aspect ratio wont be quite right and in a game with lots of round objects its not very optimal. But comon how hard can it be to enable all common standard resolutions, is there any reason to exclude 720p?

on Jun 14, 2012

I'm playing in 1280x720 as well. Luckily (like with Sins) you just need to modify the game.prefs file and the game will run in 1280x720 (no problems with anything cut-off). Just make sure to change primary adapter into:

primary_adapter = '1280,720,60'

Then the game will run just fine in 1280x720 with 60 Hertz.
